New home builders
Most people think custom means an architect and a blank sheet of paper. That is one way, and we build that way often. But there is a second way, and for a lot of families it is the smarter buy.
You can start from a design that already works and make every part of it your own — the position on your block, the way it faces the sun, the layout, and every fitting inside it. Without paying an architect just to arrive at a look you already like.
Either way you are talking to Nathan from the first conversation, and the finished house is built around you rather than around a standard plan.

There are two types of custom. Both of them are yours.
Custom from scratch. Everything comes from nothing. You have an architect, or you want one, and the house is drawn for your block and your life from the first line. Already have the design? Bring it and we will build it. Want to design one? We work alongside your architect from the start, so what gets drawn can actually be built, approved and afforded.
Custom from a plan. Start with one of our designs and make it yours. We help you find a plan that suits your taste, fits your block and works with the sun, and we check it against your council before anyone gets attached to it. From there it is fully customised, inside and out.
Whichever you choose, you deal with the builder, not a sales office.

Custom from a plan
Not a catalogue you pick from and live with. A starting point you change. Choose a design close to what you want, then we shift the layout, turn it on the block, work the sun around your day and fit it out exactly how you want it. You skip the architect fee and keep the control.

A volume builder wants flat land one of their standard designs can drop onto. That is not a criticism, it is the business they are in — the moment the ground moves, the standard design stops working. That is the point where we are the ones still quoting.
We build on steep slopes
We have built on a lot of them. If it needs heavy steel framing underneath to hold it up, we design for it and we weld it ourselves. If it needs serious retaining before anything starts, that is our excavator and our crew.
Sun, shade and which way you face
Where the house sits and which way it is turned decides how warm it is in July and how bearable it is in February. Morning sun where you want it, summer sun kept off the glass, winter sun let deep inside. It costs nothing to get right at the planning stage.
Built for people who have done this before
Many of our customers have already built once, often a volume home. They know which rooms they never used and which windows they wish faced the other way. They arrive knowing what matters to them, and that is a pleasure to build for.
Most of your build is done by us, not subcontracted out
This is the difference you cannot see in a brochure, and it is the reason we can take on work other builders pass on. Licensed specialist trades such as electrical are external and we use our own preferred tradespeople — everything else is ours.
Our own excavation
We cut and prepare the site ourselves, so the most unpredictable stage of the build is under our control.
Our own retaining walls
On a sloping block the retaining is not an add-on, it is structural. We build it, so it is right.
Our own framing
Whatever framing the design calls for, standard or not, it is our carpenters doing it.
Our own welding
Heavy steel frames welded and bolted by us. Most builders wait on an outside welder.
Our own landscaping
Garden and ground works are ours too, so the house and what surrounds it finish together.
Your choices, not a catalogue
If there is a tap or a bath you have your heart set on, we install it. No warehouse list.
Custom does not have to mean expensive
The assumption is that custom is the expensive option. It is not, and the reason is the thing everyone overlooks — you control where the money goes. Spend where it shows and where you touch it every day. Save where nobody will ever see it again. On a standard build the package decides that for you.

See all reviewsWe were delighted with Nathan Hooper and the Elite Building and Construction Services team. Nathan was always focussed on delivering quality workmanship.
We had Nathan do some footings for us for a job, he was prompt, professional and very reasonable on price. It was pleasing to work with him.
After trying multiple shed builders to modify our shed without success, Elite said they could and did the job well.
Contacted Nathan and his crew to re-model my awful old shower.....they went above and beyond, and now my bathroom is absolutely beautiful!! The attention to detail and craftsmanship that went into (what I’m sure was) a challenging repair/re-build, was truly appreciated. Thank you for such a wonderful result!

New home building questions, answered
How long does a custom home take to build?
It depends on the design and the block, and the honest answer is that the build itself is rarely the long part. Getting plans through your council is usually the biggest single hold-up, and missing documentation is what causes it. We put the paperwork together with you and run it past our building surveyor before it is lodged.
Can you build from my architect’s plans?
Yes, and we do it often. Bring the design and we will build it. If you have not engaged anyone yet, talk to us first — we can tell you what will and will not work on your block before the drafting starts, which saves a round of redraws.
What is the difference between custom from scratch and custom from a plan?
Custom from scratch means the house is drawn for your block from the first line, usually with an architect. Custom from a plan means starting with one of our existing designs and changing it — position, orientation, layout, fit and finish. Both are genuinely custom. The second one just skips the architect fee.
Is a custom home more expensive than a volume build?
Not necessarily, and the reason surprises people. On a custom build you control where the money goes, so you can spend on what you touch every day and save on what nobody sees again. On a standard package that decision is made for you.
How much of the work does Elite do itself?
Most of it. Excavation, retaining walls, framing, welding and bolting of steel, and landscaping are all done by our own crew. Licensed specialist trades such as electrical are external, and we use our own preferred tradespeople for those.
Do you build on sloping or difficult blocks?
Yes. Steep sites are a good part of what we do, and they are the ones volume builders tend to pass on. If it needs heavy steel framing underneath we design for it and weld it ourselves, and if it needs serious retaining that is our excavator and our crew.
